Three-phase energy monitor with Ethernet and PoE
Electronic architecture for monitoring a three-phase system and exposing measurements to supervisory platforms.

Electrical and functional performance requires testing on physical hardware. No unmeasured results are presented as verified.
The problem
Combine three-phase measurement, digital processing, Ethernet and PoE power in one architecture while accounting for electrical hazards and calibration.
Requirements and scope
- ATM90E32AS three-phase metering front end.
- ESP32-S3 embedded processing.
- Ethernet link using LAN8720A PHY.
- PoE interface with TPS2378.
- Electrical domain separation and a safety verification strategy.
System architecture
The system combines an electrical measurement domain, ESP32-S3 controller, RMII Ethernet interface and PoE supply subsystem. Inter-domain integration requires careful review of ground references, isolation barriers and electrical protection.
Engineering decisions
- ATM90E32AS to centralize three-phase measurement functions.
- ESP32-S3 for acquisition control and communications.
- Ethernet and PoE to explore single-cable network connectivity.
- Isolation, protection and clearance review before any mains-voltage testing.
Verification plan
- Audit electrical clearances, isolation, protection and applicable safety requirements before energizing.
- Validate power and PoE under safe bench conditions.
- Verify Ethernet link and digital acquisition.
- Define calibration and compare against a reference instrument.
Outcome and limitations
The result is a design package for prototyping. Metrological accuracy, electrical safety, isolation, regulatory compliance and continuous operation remain unverified. It must not be connected to mains power without a competent safety review and appropriate test plan.
